Margaret S. Douglas Middle School House Model
(Based on work done with the Eagle Foundation)
The House System consists of a set of houses named after adjectives that represent the school values and have salient significance to the student population. As the House system takes shape in the 292 community students will have an opportunity to select House Icons that should be relevant to student populations and their house name [optional].
Students learn about their historical figure and, through this learning, attempt to embody the characteristics that the House Icon currently or has demonstrated. The Houses contain vertical student representation and provide an additional means to build positive relationships between students across all school grades and promote students working within their house to achieve individual and collective success. Students serve as house leaders. School faculty and staff are also assigned into Houses as advisors. Parents are assigned to the houses of their child.
